Electroweak Baryogenesis from Preheating
The origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry remains one of the most fundamental problems of cosmology. In this talk I present a novel scenario for baryogenesis at the electroweak scale, without the need for a first order phase transition. It is based on the out of equilibrium resonant production of long wavelength Higgs and gauge configurations, at the end of a period of inflation, which indu...
متن کاملPatterns from Preheating
The formation of regular patterns is a well-known phenomenon in condensed matter physics. Systems that exhibit pattern formation are typically driven and dissipative with pattern formation occurring in the weakly nonlinear regime and sometimes even in more strongly nonlinear regions of parameter space. In the early universe, parametric resonance can drive explosive particle production called pr...
متن کاملNon-Gaussianity from preheating.
We consider a two-field model for inflation where the second order metric perturbations can be amplified by a parametric resonance during preheating. We demonstrate that there can arise a considerable enhancement of non-Gaussianity sourced by the local terms generated through the coupled perturbations. We argue that the non-Gaussianity parameter could be as large as f(NL) approximately 50. Our ...
متن کاملNon-Gaussianity from massless preheating
Preheating can convert superhorizon fluctuations of light scalar fields present at the end of inflation into observable density perturbations. We show in detail how lattice field theory simulations and the separate universes approximation can be used to calculate these perturbations and make predictions for the nonlinearity parameter fNL. We also present a simple approximation scheme that can r...
متن کاملPhase transitions from preheating in gauge theories
We show by studying the Abelian Higgs model with numerical lattice simulations that nonthermal phase transitions arising out of preheating after inflation are possible in gauge-Higgs models under rather general circumstances. This may lead to the formation of gauged topological defects and, if the scale at which inflation ends is low enough, to electroweak baryogenesis after preheating.
